About Us

In 2013 the NorWesCo club name was changed to Burnett Washburn Radio Association (BWRA) to better serve Burnett, Washburn, and surrounding counties.

The interests of area hams is broader than NorWesCo’s mission to provide radio communications to the emergency services of these counties. A local club, or association, could better serve the area’s amateur radio operators. We modeled it on the Amateur Radio Associations which exist in Douglas County, in Polk County, and in most other counties in Wisconsin. Within these associations, emergency communications are addresses within a subset of the group, as are other interests of the members.

The BWRA (formerly NorWesCo) works with the Amateur Radio Emergency Service, National Weather Service, Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service, and the office of Wisconsin Emergency Management. Many of the members are active in the National Weather Service program “Skywarn” and are weather spotters.

Our radio amateurs are not only active on 2 meters but also enjoy HF DXing, contests, HF digital, and radio building projects.

The Burnett-Washburn Radio Association meets on the first Saturday of each month at 9 AM. We alternate venues between the Burnett County Government Center and the Washburn County EOC in the Highway Shop. All are welcome to attend.

The BWRA has a net that meets every Wednesday night at 8 PM local time on 3 linked repeaters. They are located in Lampson, north of Spooner on the frequency of 146.970 MHz, Barronett on 147.045 MHz, and Siren on 146.625 MHz. All use a PL tone of 110.9. This is an open net and all licensed amateurs are encouraged to participate.
